Lagos, Nigeria. March 25, 2017 – It is with great honor we unveil the 2017 Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) global list to recognize the positive contributions made by people of African descent in public and private sectors worldwide.

MIPAD is a unique global list that identifies, in total, 200 outstanding individuals under 40, with 100 inside Africa, 100 outside Africa in the Diaspora.

Our mission with MIPAD is a build a progressive network of civil society actors to join together and support the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent, 2015 – 2024, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/237.

The Awards Dinner in honor of the ‘MIPAD Class of 2017’ is slated for September 26th, 2017 in New York City, following the closing of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. Former U.S. President Barack Obama and current UN Secretary-General António Guterres are expected to attend as keynote speakers.

LAUNCH OF 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE - MIPAD

The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) 100 is a global initiative in support of the United Nation's International Decade for People of African Descent.

The Decade, to be observed from 2015 to 2024, was proclaimed by the United Nations (General Assembly resolution 68/237), with the goal of strengthening national, regional and international action for the protection of human rights for people of African descent worldwide. The Decade also aims to promote greater knowledge of and respect for the contributions of people of African descent to societies.

MIPAD identifies high achievers of African descent in public and private sectors from all around the world as a progressive network of relevant actors to join together in the spirit of recognition, justice and development.

The official launch of the MIPAD initiative and unveiling of the global list of MIPAD honorees will be held on March 25th 2017, coinciding with the commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Among the special guest speakers will be Nigerian Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Honorable Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Le classement des 100 personnes d’ascendance Africaine les plus influentes (MIPAD) est une initiative civile en faveur de la décennie internationale pour les personnes d’ascendance Africaine.

La décennie allant de 2015 à 2024 a été proclamée par l’Assemblée Générale des Nation Unies (par la résolution 68/237) dans les but de renforcer l’action nationale, régionale et internationale pour la protection des droits de l’homme dans le monde des personnes d’ascendance Africaines.

La décennie vise également à promouvoir une plus grande connaissance et le respect des contributions des personnes d’ascendance Africaine a la société.

MIPAD 100 identifie et classe les plus grands contributeurs d’ascendance Africaine dans les secteurs publics et prives du monde entier et se définit en tant qu’un réseau progressif d’acteurs pertinents se rassemblant dans un esprit de reconnaissance, de justice et de développement.

Le lancement officiel de l’initiative du MIPAD et le dévoilement de la liste mondiale des personnalités du MIPAD aura lieu le Samedi 25 Mars 2017, coïncidant avec la commémoration de la journée internationale du souvenir des victimes de l’esclavage et de la traite transatlantique des esclaves.

Le dîner de remise des prix en l’honneur de la classe MIPAD 2017 est prévu pour le Mardi 26 Septembre à New York, suite à la clôture de la 72ème session de l’Assemblée Générale des Nations Unies.

L’ancien Président des États-Unis, Barack Obama et le Secrétaire Général actuel des Nations Unies, António Guterres devraient être invité en tant qu’intervenants d’honneur.
